Much like the team he has helped steer to three consecutive titles, Erling Haaland ($1.72) will be shooting for some history of his own, should he win a third straight Golden Boot. The statiticians say he is a 60% chance of winning it again……………so you’re telling me there’s a chance, he won’t!
Only Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry lay claim to that feat, so can the big Viking join those greats of the game? Well it all comes down to whether the light blues are primed for another title tilt.
If Man City continue their winning ways, it’s hard to see Haaland not being a dominant force, particularly given his efficiency when scoring. He averaged 5.76 touches per shot and 11.81 touches per shot on target in the Premier League last season, a big threat with less time on the ball.
But let’s pretend Man City are on the slide and Haaland has an injury interrupted season, so we can sink our teeth into some value and find the next hot shot.
Using the same theory with Mo Salah ($11) (let’s say his older legs slow him down), it’s his teammate Darwin Nunez ($19) that could get it done. The Uruguayan scored 11 times last season but squandered 27 of 33 big chances in front of goal. If he improves his conversion and stops crapping his pants at the business end, the goals could flood in.
On the same line as Nunez is Dominic Solanke, who has just left the Cherries and joined big Ange at Spurs. A prolific striker was the missing link for Ange last season, so he could have a fill up with better supply. Cole Palmer has just signed a big contract for Chelsea and was scoring at ease in the back half of 23/24, so he can feature too. The only other chance is Alexander Isak from Newcastle. The superstar Swede needs the Magpies to have a great season for him to feature.
